Tomorrow is Leila's 6 month post op appointment. I have been feeling nauseous all day. I just want to hear him say that she is 100% in the clear. I do not even care if he still wants her to wear the brace for 16-18 hours a day (of course I hope he says she does not have to). I just want this to be "somewhat" over. I want to stop being super nervous about her hips ALL THE TIME. I know that there are are WAY WORSE conditions that children can be born with and have to suffer their entire lives with but....this is MY baby and I just want to be able to say that she is perfectly healthy and right on track. I just want tomorrow to go great, PERFECT!
Leila is exactly 11 months old today. She is nearly 10 weeks out of the cast and February 3rd will mark 3 months CAST FREE.
I just want to take a deep breath tomorrow and be able to tell all of my super supportive friends and family that she is TOTALLY HEALED. For those of you reading this that are wondering what the hell could possibly still be wrong with her hips, let me explain:
Leila had a "closed reduction" surgical procedure back in August. This is where they made a tiny incision (1/4 inch) and they snipped the tendons around her right hip. Then she was put in the cast to hold the femoral head in place so that the hip socket could grow and deepen. Well, she looked PERFECT after surgery and even after her first cast change. She still looked great after the cast came off but she still needed to have some more bone growth in that area. The last time she was examined by the ortho was the day the cast was removed (Nov. 11th).

There was always a small chance that if this surgery did not "work or heal" completely than she might need the "open reduction" surgery. This is when they open her up to expose her entire hip joint. Then they shave down any improper bone growth and put her hip in place (sometimes with the use of pins). Then she would go back in the cast for a minimum of 6 months. Just writing this is making me feel sick. I truly feel (mother's intuition) that she is healed and she can put all this behind her. BUT, I am not a doctor and only he can say she is all better. So please, keep her in your thoughts tomorrow. The appointment is at 10:30 am and I will update as soon as I know anything.
