Well, lots of you have been asking about my meeting with Dr. A. yesterday. Everything went well. It was him, another ortho, the head nurse and a lady from the DDH research team. He answered all my questions and few extras that I thought of on the spot. I remember having a ton of questions before Nya has her adenoidectomy but they were more about the actual procedure because there was not really any future issue that could happen afterwards. Ok, back to Leila. The best points of the meeting were:
1. Her procedure will be a "closed reduction" which means they only have to do a small incision to put the "ball" in place. As opposed to an "open reduction" which would mean they would have to do a formal incision to expose her entire hip and that has way more complications. Phew!
2. The surgery should only take 75 minutes.
3. She only needs a half cast (see photo) since her left hip is good, which means the cast will only go to her knee on the left. Take note that the kid in the photo is like 2 and my tiny baby will be wearing a GIANT cast like that, very sad.
4. The doc was fine with me going to Boston and was actually very supportive and encouraging.
5. She should recover perfectly since she is so young and she still has so much cartilage in her hip.
6. The research team is lending me the special car seat (see photo) used to transport children in the spica cast (phew, because they are like $500) so I can take Nya to school and everything.
7. Her surgery date is scheduled for AUGUST 19th at 6 AM (unless we get a miracle in Boston).
8. She will be 1 before we are done with all this, 3 months in the cast plus another 3 months in the brace. Ugh.
9. IT COULD BE WAY WORSE!!! My children is NOT fighting for her life, she is NOT in any pain, she will NOT even remember this. I have to remind myself of that daily because otherwise I get too caught up.
10. Dr. A. said she will be my athlete and I am betting he is right!
That is pretty much it, there was a lot more areas discussed but nothing that is very interesting.

Christina,
I am so sorry that you and Leila are going through this. It's got to be hard. Even though it's not something life threatening, it doesn't make the daily frustration or the sadness of watching your baby go through this any less. You are allowed to get upset. You are a great momma, very strong and will get her great treatment! Thinking about you guys and keep you in our prayers.
Kristy
